The Shore Line documentary features stories from nine countries and on this page you can find out more about each location. While we know there are many more stories to tell – each of these communities faces a unique challenge.
New Zealand is one of the first countries to contend with climate refugee claimants. Chile has the most Glaciers of any country in South America but no legislation to protect the glaciers from mining. The expansion of the Panama Canal has meant growth for Panama but finding sustainable ways to manage the growth is an ongoing challenge. Vancouver is the Canadian city most at risk for economic devastation in the event of sea level rise and is working to become the greenest city in the world. Bangladesh is one of the most densely populated nations in the world and is also one of the countries most vulnerable to the impacts of sea level rise and climate change. Long Beach Island, New Jersey, (USA) has seen many storms over time, but development trends have made the community increasing vulnerable to events like Superstorm Sandy. A decade ago, Cyclone Aila caused endless destruction for communities along India’s 7500 km coastline. And cities like Jakarta, Indonesia are facing floods of people and water.
