Sefali, at 14 has made it her life goal to plant 35,000 mangroves around her home on the island of Maipith in the Sundarbans.
During Cyclone Aila in 2009 she witnessed first hand how important mangroves are to survival in the region. She sees it as her duty to plant mangroves and thereby protect her community from future storms. Sefali is an active member of Green Rhinos and receives leadership training and mentorship from the Association of Social and Environmental Development (ASED).
“I am thinking about the environment all the time. Its like an addiction from a very young age. I want to plant trees, to keep my school clean, this is what I love.”
