Tania is a lawyer working with The Environmental Advocacy Center helping communities and advocates to ensure that projects developed along the coast of Panama are complying with environmental codes and regulations.

The expansion of the Panama Canal to accommodate larger and larger ships, including Post-Panamax, will bring development projects such as the Green Port, a project that threatens the critical mangrove ecosystem of Colon. The Green Port Project has temporarily been stalled in large part due to the research conducted by CIAM (Centro de Incidencia Ambiental )and collaborating groups. ANAM, Panama’s environmental regulating body, rejected the environmental and social impact assessment and Tania and her collaborators will continue to conduct research and follow this case closely to ensure sustainable development for the area.
